Welcome to EdSoft
If you have just discovered EdSoft — or if you have been meaning to explore it but have not yet taken the first step — this guide is for you. Getting started is simpler than you might think, and this walkthrough will have your child engaged with their first module in no time.
What You Will Need
- A device: desktop computer, laptop or tablet.
- Your child's school grade and curriculum.
- An internet connection for the initial setup.
- About 15 minutes to get set up.
Step 1: Create Your Account
Visit edsoft.co.za and create an account. You will need a valid email address and a password. The process takes under two minutes. Once your account is active, you will have access to the full EdSoft module library when it launches.
Step 2: Set Up a Learner Profile
EdSoft is designed to support multiple learners within a single account — useful for families with more than one school-going child. For each learner, you will select their grade level and curriculum. This will filter the module library to show only the content that is relevant to them, keeping things clean and easy to navigate.
Step 3: Browse and Select Your First Module
Once our module library is live, you will be able to browse by subject. For a first session, we recommend choosing a subject your child already feels reasonably confident about. This allows them to experience success early, which builds motivation for tackling more challenging material later.
Each module listing will include a clear description of what it covers, the grade level it is designed for, and the curriculum it aligns to. Take a few minutes to read through the description before selecting — this will help you confirm it matches what your child is currently studying at school.
Step 4: Establish a Study Routine
Digital learning tools are most effective when they are used consistently rather than intensively. Rather than scheduling hour-long sessions, aim for 20 to 30 minutes of focused module engagement three to four times a week. This frequency allows concepts to consolidate in long-term memory far more effectively than marathon study sessions.
For younger learners (Grade R to Grade 3): Keep sessions to 15–20 minutes maximum. Young children learn best in short, frequent bursts with positive reinforcement.
For intermediate learners (Grade 4 to Grade 7): 20–30 minute sessions work well. Encourage learners to make brief notes as they engage with modules.
For high school learners (Grade 8 to Grade 12): 30–45 minute sessions are appropriate, particularly for complex subjects like Mathematics or Physical Sciences.
Step 5: Stay Involved
One of the most powerful things you can do as a parent is to show genuine interest in what your child is learning. You do not need to understand the content yourself — simply asking 'What did you learn today?' or 'Can you explain that concept to me?' activates a powerful learning technique called the protege effect, where teaching reinforces the teacher's own understanding.
Children who know their parents are interested in their learning are consistently more motivated and more persistent when they encounter difficulty.
