How to Choose the Right EdSoft Module for Your Child

Step 1: Identify Your Child's Curriculum
The first and most important factor in choosing any educational resource is curriculum alignment. Schools follow different programmes, and it is essential that the modules you use match the specific curriculum your child's school follows.
- CAPS (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement) — the national curriculum used by the majority of schools in South Africa
- IEB (Independent Examinations Board) — used by many independent schools
- Cambridge International — offered by a number of private and international schools worldwide
- International Baccalaureate (IB) — used by select schools offering the IB Diploma Programme
- Common Core — the standard curriculum followed by schools in the United States
If you are unsure which curriculum your child's school follows, you can confirm by asking the school directly or checking the school's prospectus.
Step 2: Confirm the Grade Level
EdSoft modules are structured by grade, from Grade R through to Grade 12. Selecting the correct grade ensures that the content matches the cognitive level, vocabulary, and depth of knowledge expected of your child at their current stage of schooling.
If your child is in a transitional year — for example, moving from primary to high school — consider exploring modules for both grades to consolidate foundational knowledge while beginning to introduce new content.
Step 3: Prioritise Subjects
It is tempting to cover every subject immediately, but a more strategic approach often produces better results. Consider starting with the subjects your child finds most challenging, or those that carry the most weight in their year-end assessment.
For primary school learners: Mathematics and home language tend to benefit most from early digital reinforcement, as they underpin performance across other subjects.
For high school learners: Focus on gateway subjects first — those required for access to further study or career paths your child is interested in.
For exam preparation: All core subjects benefit from structured module-based revision in the weeks before major assessments.
Step 4: Match the Module to the Learning Goal
Different modules serve different purposes. Some are designed for initial learning of a new concept, others for reinforcement of existing knowledge, and others specifically for exam preparation. Consider what your child needs most right now:
- Building foundational understanding of a concept they have never encountered before
- Reinforcing something taught in class that has not fully clicked yet
- Preparing systematically for an upcoming test or examination
- Exploring a subject they are genuinely curious about beyond the classroom syllabus
Step 5: Start Small and Build Consistency
The most common mistake when starting with any learning platform is trying to do too much too quickly. Choose one or two modules to begin with, establish a regular study routine, and add more modules as your child's confidence and habit grow.
Consistent use of one well-chosen module will always outperform sporadic engagement with many modules.
When our module library launches, you will be able to browse by curriculum, grade, and subject to find the right starting point for your child.
