Life Skills
What to Expect from CAPS Grade 1 Life Skills
Grade 1 Life Skills builds on the holistic development begun in Grade R — expanding personal awareness, developing creative skills, and building physical literacy through more structured activities. EdSoft's engaging, interactive module makes every Life Skills session feel meaningful and enjoyable.
Beginning Knowledge and Personal Social Well-being
Grade 1 learners explore their own personal world more systematically — their bodies, feelings, senses, and place within their family and community. Social skills develop through activities focused on sharing, cooperation, respecting differences, and resolving conflict peacefully. Learners also explore their immediate environment and community, building a sense of place and social responsibility.
Creative Arts
Visual Arts in Grade 1 develops drawing, painting, and collage skills — with a focus on self-expression and exploring materials and tools. Music activities build rhythm awareness, singing ability, and appreciation of sound through songs, movement, and percussion. Drama activities encourage storytelling, role-play, and expressive communication. Dance and movement explore rhythm, expression, and physical awareness through guided creative movement.
Physical Education
Grade 1 Physical Education develops fundamental movement skills — running, jumping, hopping, balancing, throwing, and catching — through structured games and movement challenges. Ball skills, body coordination, and spatial awareness are built through activities that are as enjoyable as they are developmental.
