Engineering Graphics and Design
What to Expect from CAPS Grade 11 Engineering Graphics and Design
Grade 11 EGD extends technical drawing to more complex geometric forms and introduces civil and mechanical drawing applications. EdSoft's adaptive module builds spatial reasoning and technical accuracy to near-matric level.
Solid Geometry
Grade 11 solid geometry develops the ability to draw and interpret complex 3D geometric forms — prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones are drawn in orthographic and isometric projection. Sections through solids are developed to a higher level of complexity.
Developments
Developments — the unfolded flat patterns that can be folded to create 3D objects — are a major Grade 11 topic. Learners draw the developments of prisms, pyramids, and transition pieces, developing spatial reasoning and precision simultaneously.
Interpenetrations
The intersection of one solid with another — essential for engineering drawing of pipes, ducts, and fittings — is introduced in Grade 11 as a challenging but important technical skill.
Civil Drawing
Plan, elevation, and section drawings for simple civil structures are introduced, developing learners' understanding of architectural and civil drawing conventions.
