What to Expect from CAPS Grade 3 Life Skills

Grade 3 Life Skills completes the Foundation Phase journey — deepening personal and social development, extending creative skills, and building physical confidence and coordination. Beginning Knowledge and Personal Social Well-being

Grade 3 learners develop a broader understanding of their world — the natural environment, community structures, and their responsibilities as active citizens. Personal health, safety, and well-being are explored through age-appropriate, engaging activities. Social skills — respecting diversity, showing empathy, and building positive relationships — are developed through scenarios and discussions that connect to learners' lived experience.

Creative Arts

Visual Arts develops more advanced art-making skills including perspective, shading, and mixed-media techniques. Music introduces basic music notation and develops part-singing and rhythmic complexity. Drama extends to structured performance — writing simple scripts, rehearsing, and presenting to an audience. Dance and movement develops composition skills, exploring sequences and rhythmic patterns.

Physical Education

Grade 3 Physical Education develops ball games, group sports, gymnastics, and more complex movement sequences. Learners develop rules literacy, cooperative play, and the physical confidence needed for active, healthy participation.
