What to Expect from CAPS Grade 4 Social Sciences

Social Sciences in Grade 4 introduces learners to South African and African history and geography — developing a sense of place, time, and human experience that grows in depth and complexity throughout school. EdSoft's adaptive module makes both subjects engaging and personally meaningful.

History

Grade 4 History explores South Africa's pre-colonial past — the lives and cultures of early South African societies including the Khoikhoi and San peoples, and the Bantu-speaking farming communities. Learners investigate how archaeologists and historians find out about the past, developing basic historical inquiry skills.

Geography

Grade 4 Geography introduces map skills — reading and interpreting simple maps, understanding scale, and using a compass. South Africa's physical geography is explored: provinces, major landforms, rivers, and climate zones are mapped and described.
