Life Skills
What to Expect from CAPS Grade 5 Life Skills
Grade 5 Life Skills continues the Creative Arts and Physical Education focus of Intermediate Phase — deepening technical skills, developing creative confidence, and building more sophisticated physical literacy. EdSoft's module keeps learners engaged across both strands with progressive, structured content.
Creative Arts
Visual Arts in Grade 5 develops more advanced techniques — perspective drawing, colour theory, and the study of South African and international art. Music develops ensemble playing, more complex rhythmic notation, and music theory fundamentals. Drama explores more complex performance forms — improvisation, scripted drama, and technical theatre elements like staging and lighting. Dance develops more demanding technique and compositional skills, with increased cultural and historical context.
Physical Education
Grade 5 Physical Education builds on Grade 4 foundations with more structured sports participation — refined athletics techniques, competitive games, gymnastics sequences, and aquatics skills. Learners develop deeper understanding of rules, strategy, and fair play alongside their physical skill development.
