What to Expect from CAPS Grade 7 Technology

Grade 7 Technology develops a rigorous approach to the design process — moving beyond simple construction tasks to more formally structured design, make, and evaluate projects. EdSoft's adaptive module develops technical knowledge and design thinking together.

Structures

Grade 7 learners investigate how structures are designed to withstand loads — exploring triangulation, reinforcement, and the principles of stable structural design. Learners apply this knowledge by designing and building structures that meet specified load and material constraints.

Mechanical Systems and Control

Linkages and mechanisms are explored — learners investigate how mechanical systems change the direction and magnitude of forces, designing and building simple machines that perform specific functions.

Processing

Grade 7 processing explores how natural materials are modified for use — covering textiles, food, and materials processing. Learners investigate industrial processing and evaluate the environmental impact of manufacturing processes.
