What to Expect from CAPS Grade 8 Creative Arts

Grade 8 Creative Arts deepens the technical and critical skills introduced in Grade 7 — learners develop more sophisticated art-making techniques, deeper music literacy, more complex dramatic performance, and more demanding dance work. Visual Arts

Grade 8 visual arts develops digital art, three-dimensional art, and mixed media — alongside continued drawing and painting development. Art history is studied in depth, with reference to South African, African, and international traditions.

Music

Grade 8 music extends music theory and notation and develops ensemble performance — learners explore harmony, musical form, and the cultural contexts of different musical traditions. Composition is introduced as a creative skill.

Drama
