What to Expect from CAPS Grade 9 Social Sciences

Grade 9 Social Sciences completes the Senior Phase with historically and geographically significant content that connects directly to South Africa's contemporary reality. EdSoft's adaptive module develops the critical thinking and analytical skills that will serve learners throughout the FET Phase and beyond.

History

Grade 9 History covers the Second World War, the Cold War and its global impact, and the struggle against apartheid in South Africa. The history of apartheid — its implementation, its effects on South African society, and the resistance movements that challenged it — is studied in depth and with appropriate critical engagement. The transition to democracy in 1994 provides a powerful conclusion to the Senior Phase history curriculum.

Geography

Grade 9 Geography explores development and inequality — comparing development levels across countries and regions, investigating the causes and consequences of inequality, and analysing South Africa's development challenges. Environmental geography — resource management, climate change, and sustainable development — is also a key focus.
