What to Expect from CAPS Grade R Life Skills

Grade R Life Skills is one of the most richly varied subjects in the curriculum — covering personal development, social skills, creative arts, and physical education all in one beautifully integrated learning area. The CAPS Grade R Life Skills curriculum recognises that young learners develop as whole people, not just academic achievers, and EdSoft's module reflects this through engaging, play-based interactive learning that celebrates every dimension of child development.

Beginning Knowledge and Personal Social Well-being

This strand of Grade R Life Skills develops the foundational personal and social skills that children need to thrive — at school and in life. Learners explore their own identity, their families, and their communities, building self-awareness and a sense of belonging. They develop important personal skills including managing emotions, following routines, sharing, taking turns, and showing care and respect for others.

EdSoft's activities bring these concepts to life through interactive scenarios and guided reflection that make social and emotional learning feel relevant and real.

Creative Arts

Creative Arts in Grade R Life Skills encompasses visual art, music, drama, and movement. Learners develop their artistic voice through drawing, painting, collage, and craft activities that build fine motor skills and creative confidence. Music activities include singing, clapping rhythms, and exploring different sounds — developing musical awareness and a love of creative expression. Drama and movement activities encourage learners to use their bodies and imagination to tell stories and explore ideas.

Physical Education

Grade R Physical Education develops the fundamental movement skills that underpin all physical activity — running, jumping, balancing, throwing, catching, and co-ordination. Through games, obstacle courses, and structured play, learners build body awareness, gross motor skills, and the physical confidence to participate actively and joyfully.

How EdSoft Supports Grade R Life Skills

EdSoft's CAPS Grade R Life Skills module uses playful, animated interactive learning to engage young learners across all three strands of the curriculum. Activities are designed to feel like play while building the important personal, creative, and physical skills that the CAPS curriculum demands. Real-time tracking gives educators and parents visibility into learner engagement and development, and the module works fully offline."
